Women’s crafts in Algeria during the Ottoman era witnessed remarkable activity, whether in the city or the countryside. In the cities, women excelled in crafts such as weaving, embroidery, soap making; and sewing, and their products were in demand in local markets and even outside the country. In the countryside, they excelled in wool spinning pottery making and preparing traditional foods associated with occasions. These crafts contributed to achieving a kind of economic independence for women despite social restrictions. They also preserved an important part of the cultural heritage and identity of Algeria during that.
